SEO is a template. Once a person has successfully search engine optimized a website, then that person can optimize another site. The problem is the first site. A person that spends time optimizing a website to the highest level it can be optimized is a person who has the experience and knowledge necessary to raise other sites on the internet. The only cost is the time and effort associated with getting that site to that position.
Once a person gets a site ranked on the search engines they have a template to follow to get other sites ranked. Granted, things can be slightly different, however, any template that a person can create is a template that helps a person speed up the process on the next project. Therefore, the first site that is correctly search engine optimized with success becomes the template to follow for future projects.
Every website is different, however, if a person breaks a website down, they will find that a website is only a few pieces of code that a person can break apart and compare to other sites. If a person uses a major CMS such as WordPress, then they can break the CMS down into posts and pages. If a person can optimize a post or a page then they know how to optimize other posts and pages.
If a person breaks the internet down then the WordPress example works with other pages. What are web pages if they are not posts and pages? They are essentially the same thing; they contain content that a person wants to get ranked. Therefore, a person who understands SEO can get almost anything ranked because there is a similarity between the media that a person could use to get attention on the internet.
Just like a person only has two hands and two feet, there are only so many media types or assets that can be released on the internet. Therefore, a person with a strong grasp of the internet is a person who can use their SEO talents to help those assets rank higher in the search engines and get more traffic to a website (and therefore an offer that makes the business money).
Therefore, a business person must learn SEO or find someone who understands SEO as soon as possible. This is because other people or businesses are competing on the search engines; this means that a business must compete on the same systems to have a chance of grabbing their share of clients or customers.
